I've no desire or intention to read Shadow W. J., but I do feel you do Jung a disservice. His description of Hitler and the dark side of the Id, is, in my opinion spot on, and noting such does not mean one is lauding such.

& why yes I do do imagine that getting in touch with, realizing I have a dark side, by understanding my behavior and all that influences it, can perhaps bring me closer to the light. If one doesn't know a shadow's there there's nothing one can do about it.

OK I was around 7 or 8 when WW II ended. for decades, for scores of years I just couldn't understand , couldn't conceive, how/why the German people accepted and supported Hitler. Sadly, today, looking at the insanity around us I quite understand.

I'm not saying buy the whole cloth (Actually I suspect one should never ever buy the whole cloth.) , but I do feel many of Jung's insights are well worth the read.
