A few days ago the seriously mentally challenged columnist David Brooks almost got something right. It does not happen very often, so it is worthy of note. Brooks chose to expatiate on the concept of the division of labor. You know it from Adam Smith and perhaps David Hume. The most basic treatise on it dates to the late nineteenth century, to the French sociologist Emile Durkheim.
I still find it difficult to support a regime that wants to harm me.
Free Trade is good but is there a limit?
As a Jew, should I buy products from Gaza knowing that a portion of the exchange will be converted into weapons agains Jews? Iranian produce? Chinese products?
Ultimately, we have choices. The cheapest item may not be the best. My desire to save money is conflicting with giving money to those who would want to destroy our way of life.
Trump should have facilitated American manufacturing not add tariffs to restrict imports.
