I will venture that the most offensive and insulting book title in recent years was Thomas Frank’s, What’s the Matter with Kansas. Frank argued that rural voters, especially those in Kansas, did not know what was good for them. The Democratic Party was defending their interests and they were voting for Republicans.
Kansas resident here. It was yet another example of the arrogance and ignorance from the left in academia. Kansas can be a wild card, witness the vote on abortion. Rural people are closer to small businesses and tend to understand economic realities better. Many have been self employed at some point or may still be. This experience is highly educational.
